Dessislava Day has practiced law in California for over 17 years. She represents employers in a wide spectrum of employment law disputes, including wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour, whistleblower, trade secret violations, and representative actions. Dessi counsels employers on employee discipline, leaves of absence, accommodations, compensation, employee policies and procedures, and employment agreements. Dessi also assists clients with internal investigations, audits, and HR compliance issues. She has represented employers in administrative proceedings before state and federal agencies, including the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, and California Labor Commissioner.
Dessi has prior experience in handling complex business disputes, product liability, warranty, and elder abuse matters. She has represented businesses of all sizes and in most industry sectors. Some of her representative matters include defending one of the worldwide leading health care providers in multiple discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour disputes; successfully defending large retail establishments in a variety of employment litigation matters; representing one of the global energy and petrochemical companies in product liability and business litigation matters; representing some of the largest car manufacturers in product liability and warranty matters; and representing a public university in administrative mandamus proceedings.
Dessi is involved in several professional organizations. She has served on the Steering Committee of the DRI Employment Law Committee for almost a decade, and has assisted with planning the DRI Annual Employment Law Seminar, which is one of the preeminent CLE events for management side labor and employment practitioners, in-house counsel, and EPLI representatives nationwide. Dessi had the privilege of chairing the DRI Employment Law Seminar in Austin, Texas in 2016, and is a prior speaker at DRI Employment Law events.
Dessi graduated with her Juris Doctorate from the University of North Carolina, School of Law in 1999, where she served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of International Law and Commercial Transactions, and was a Member of the UNC Law Moot Court/Trial Law Academy Team. Dessi graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Management from Guilford College, with honors, in 1995. Dessi is a prior Co-Chair of the Litigation Section of the San Diego County Bar Association, and a member of the Lawyers Club of San Diego, ABTL, and the American Inns of Court, Louis M. Welsh Chapter No. 9.
