About Us

About the Firm

We are federal and state litigators and trial attorneys, dedicated to providing the highest quality legal representation in the defense of civil actions involving employment as well as general business and tort issues.  We also advise clients on non-litigation employment and business matters, such as employee leave, wage-and-hour requirements, and contract review and preparation.  We frequently assist clients in the formation of corporate entities and consult in the area of corporate governance for both general and nonprofit corporations.  A particular area of focus involves advising and defending nonprofit religious organizations, with attention to the unique aspects of law that apply to such entities.

Our experience in trying more than 50 cases to jury verdict provides us the depth of experience and knowledge to address the most challenging problems, particularly where individual and company reputations are at risk.  Our goal in every matter entrusted to us is to identify the end that best serves the needs of our clients and to achieve that end as efficiently as possible. We simplify complicated matters and do not overstaff, overbill, or overpromise. We partner with our clients, making their business our business, so that our representation always advances their mission.

We represent California employers (both for-profit and nonprofit) in the defense of every type of employment case, including those involving alleged discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful discharge, and violations of FLSA, Title VII, FMLA, ADA, Federal and California False Claims Act, FEHA, the California Labor Code, CFRA, and innumerable related regulations and administrative orders.  We offer expertise in the defense of administrative enforcement actions by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Department of Fair Employment & Housing, California Labor Commissioner, Labor Welfare Development Agency, Federal and Cal-OSHA, and the U.S. Department of Labor.  We have defended many cases filed as putative class actions, defeating certification in most.  We counsel our clients with respect to their employment needs, developing strategies to prevent litigation and in the area of union-avoidance.

Other areas of practice include handling general civil litigation matters, civil writs, and appeals.   We are also well-versed in the areas of nonprofit, constitutional, religious freedom and public law.  Our experience in all three branches of government enables us to counsel clients about pending legislation, government relations, and public law.  We bring decades of experience at the highest levels in dealing with the government, coupled with extensive courtroom experience ranging from superior court trials to argument before a variety of appellate courts. When the stakes are high, the broad experience we bring to bear makes the difference for our diverse clientele.
